Alexander Breuss

Alexander Breuss is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the SMS Lab, supported by an Innosuisse BRIDGE Fellowship. He earned his PhD in 2024, specializing in medical robotics with a focus on sleep robotics. In addition, he holds visiting research positions at the external page Smart Robotics Design Lab in Sendai, Japan, and at the external page National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology in Nagoya, Japan.

Prior to his PhD, Alexander completed a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a Master's degree in Robotics, Systems, and Control at ETH Zurich in 2018 and 2020, respectively. His undergrad and graduate research focused on the kinematics and dynamics of rescue, medical, and rehabilitation robots, along with human-robot interaction. For his Master's thesis at the Autonomous Systems Lab, he collaborated with a Swiss company to develop an autonomous drone for locating avalanche victims.

Alexander has published peer-reviewed journal articles and presented at international conferences. He also serves as an active reviewer for various scientific journals and conferences. His work has been recognized with several awards, including fellowships, mobility grants, best paper presentation awards, and research distinctions.
