Florian Haufe
Florian Haufe received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering from ETH Zurich in 2015 and 2017, respectively. During his studies, he developed a keen interest in how technology can be applied to solve medical challenges, and help to improve people’s lives.
After some work in the areas of nanoparticle fabrication and vascular intervention, he joined the Wyss Institute for Bioinspired Engineering at Harvard University in 2016 to write his master thesis on the control of soft wearable robots.
Back at ETH Zurich, Florian completed his PhD with the Sensory-Motor Systems Lab between June 2017 and January 2021.
His thesis investigated how wearable robots for the legs can assist human movements during activities of daily living and during rehabilitation therapy. In early 2021, Florian was co-awarded a NCCR Spin Fund Grant to translate his research findings to a commercial product.
Florian received scholarships from the German National Academic Foundation, the Dr. Jürgen and Irmgard Ulderup Foundation, and the Klee Family Foundation.
While not working, he is a passionate racing sailor, having won multiple national and continental championships, and a Youth Olympic Silver Medal.
