Nicolas Fromme

Nicolas Fromme was born in 1991 in Germany. He did his studies of Mechanical Engineering at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and received his bachelor degree in 2015 and his M.Sc. in 2017. During his Bachelor, he spent a practical semester in Malaysia in the Engineering Development Department of Robert Bosch GmbH. Furthermore, he was able to submit the work of his Bachelor Thesis in the Development Department at Daimler AG as a patent. During his Masters, he worked with upper-limb prostheses in cooperation with Vincent Systems GmbH, Germany. He wrote his Master Thesis at the Rehabilitation Engineering Lab, ETH Zurich, about the VariLeg exoskeleton, focusing on its variable stiffness actuation.

Beginning of 2018, he started his research at the Laboratory for Biomimetic Membranes and Textiles, Empa in cooperation with the SMS Lab. In his PhD thesis, Nicolas investigates approaches to suppress involuntary movements, like tremor, in the upper limb using novel, textile-based mechanisms.
