Giulia Da Poian
Giulia Da Poian received her Master’s degree (2013) in Electronic Engineering and her PhD (2017) from the University of Udine (Italy). Her PhD thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Roberto Rinaldo, focused on state-of-the-art signal processing techniques applied to cardiovascular signal analysis. During her doctoral studies, Giulia spent 6 months in the Biomedical Informatics Department at Emory University (USA), where she worked with Prof. Gari Clifford on optimizing the tradeoff between computational power, battery life, and heart rhythm detection accuracy.
After the PhD, Giulia joined the Biomedical Informatics Department at Emory University as a postdoctoral fellow. There she worked on state-of-the-art machine learning and signal processing for diagnosis and prediction of post-traumatic stress disorder. In 2019, Giulia moved to Switzerland and joined the Mobile Health System Lab at ETH Zurich to be part of the development of a wearable EEG system used to enhance deep sleep.
After obtaining a prestigious Ambizione career grant from the SNSF, Giulia has become a group leader at the SMS Lab in January 2021. She is now investigating novel technologies to aid both the diagnostic and interventional aspects of mental health care.
