Stefanie Füreder

Stefanie earned her Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, Austria. During her first year of study, she was awarded a merit scholarship and received honor from the Physio Austria Association for her Bachelor's thesis. In 2019, she began her career in spinal cord injury rehabilitation at the Swiss Paraplegic Centre. Until recently, she led the therapy team of a rehabilitation ward and was actively involved in various clinical research projects.
Alongside her clinical work, she obtained her Master's degree in Neurorehabilitation Research from the University for Continuing Education Krems, Austria. For her Master's thesis, she conducted a clinical interventional project investigating the effects of exoskeleton-assisted gait training on neuropathic pain in individuals with motor-complete spinal cord injury, under the supervision of Dr. sc. ETH Mario Widmer.
In February 2025, Stefanie joined the SMS Lab at ETH Zurich as an external PhD student. She is employed at Swiss Paraplegic Research, affiliated to the research group T-Cord, founded by PD Dr. med. Dr. sc. nat. Björn Zörner. In collaboration with NeuroRestore in Lausanne, Switzerland, her research focuses on epidural electrical stimulation as an implanted neuroprosthesis to restore walking function in individuals with spinal cord injury.
