Dynamic scapula support with a mobile orthosis

The scapula is essential for the function of the human shoulder. Different diseases or traumata can lead to a lack of movement capability and strength in the muscles that control the scapula. This weakness results in a reduction of the capability of the shoulder complex.

Here at ETH Zurich, we developed a mobile body-powered orthosis that supports the scapula during arm movements. This device stabilizes the scapula towards the body and applies an assistive force to help the scapula move in a physiologic way.

The patent for the overall concept of this orthosis is pending.
