Prof. Robert Riener contributed to the new Swiss Globi comic series book about “Globi and the Robots”, which was released this week. It is already on the Swiss bestseller list.

ETH Rehab Center takes off: Executive director Dr. Oliver Stoller joins in April
ETH Zurich’s Rehabilitation Initiative is now taking shape with a newly founded competence center for Rehabilitation Engineering and Science (RESC). The center will establish an interdisciplinary network with all the necessary expertise to develop a holistic approach for the comprehensive management of movement impairments.
Robert Riener and Roger Gassert plan competence centre for rehabilitation
Prof. Riener, Prof. Gassert, and further ETH researchers are planning to partner with clinics, foundations, public authorities and other institutions through a broad-based initiative aimed at improving the quality of life and participation of people with physical disabilities. The initiative focuses on a centre that will be a nexus of ETH expertise with up to eight new professorships and a new Master’s programme.
DIH-HERO Brokerage Event

On Wednesday, five Swiss start-ups received the W.A. de Vigier Award, which comes with prize money of 100,000 Swiss francs each. Two ETH spin-offs were among them. Fabian Just was awarded the first place in the Best Paper Award at the AUTOMED 2018 in Villingen-Schwenningen.
The talk given by Fabian Just at the AUTOMED 2018 was entitled “Pilot Study: Effects of Arm Weight Compensation with the Rehabilitation Robot ARMin”. AUTOMED is a technical committee supported by the German Society for Biomedical Engineering (DGBMT) and the VDI / VDE-Society Measurement and Automation (GMA).

The Control Committees of the Swiss Parliament visited the SMS Lab
On September 8, thirty-one members of the Swiss National Council and the Council of States visited the ETH and took a guided tour through our lab. With the projects “Somnomat” and “lower limb exoskeletons” and our work on muscle fatigue we could give insights into current research activities.
